Top 10 moments from Content Marketing World 2018

Note from Jennifer: For the first time in four years, I didn’t go to Content Marketing World in Cleveland. I was a little sad too be at home on Wednesday morning, knowing the buzz and excitement that was happening at the conference venue. But fortunately, content marketing people are super active on social media, and I was able to follow the #CMWorld hashtag to pick up on a lot of the highlights without getting on a plane. In past years when I attended, I posted daily roundups of the best quotes or tweets, so I decided to pay homage to the conference this year with one big post of the 10 best quotes on the hashtag (in no particular order).

Top 10 Moments from Content Marketing World (even if you weren’t there, thanks to Twitter!)

1. Ann Handley of MarketingProfs became the first person to win the CMI Hall of Fame Hero Award! That’s no small achievement, but it also comes as little surprise, since Ann has been one of the most prominent voices in the industry for years.

2. CMI Founder Joe Pulizzi never fails to disappoint with his on-brand get-up. Thank goodness Amy Higgins captured it in all its citrus-hued glory!

3. Deborah Iruegas captured this slide from Michael Brenner‘s presentation that we can all relate to…

4. Christoph Zeidler captured this slide, which sums content marketing up in a formula so simple that I can’t believe I haven’t seen it before. (Anyone know which presentation this came from?)

5. Andrew Davis was on a roll with quotable advice and Kathie Kinde Clark tweeted some of her favorites. These are great reminders for anyone involved with content marketing, but especially for writers.

6. Every year, Content Marketing World brings in a big celebrity keynote speaker, and this year’s pick was comedienne Tina Fey. She addressed conference attendees Thursday afternoon and Newscred tweeted this gem:

7. Looking for some autumn reading material? Solid book recs from Lisa Wester:

8. Emily Power shared this snapshot of Kingman Ink‘s informative doodle.

9. Maureen Jann shared her insights on thought leadership during her “Bringing Home the Bacon” session. Erin Hryciw shared this one:

10. Matthew Brodsky relayed this reminder, which freelance writers should find reassuring when it comes to asking for higher rates.

Did you attend Content Marketing World this year? Any valuable takeaways to share?

This is great – I love that you did this even though you didn’t attend! And I wish Tina Fey had been the keynote when I attended. That must have been interesting and fun.

    Thanks.

I’m not attending this year too, but thanks for the roundup. Yay CMWorld!

#4 came from Andy Crestodina’s presentation on creating a strategy to be in the top 1% of marketers. He has a post about it here: https://www.orbitmedia.com/blog/content-marketing-mission-statement/
