Enter to win a $50 Gift Card: Launching a New B2B Content Marketing Writing Blog

Note from Jennifer: I am holding a contest for a $50 Amazon gift card. Details are at the end of this post so don’t stop reading!

Over the past four years, I have written a ton of posts about how to find clients and how to make more money as a content marketing writer. But I haven’t spent a ton of time talking about the most important thing you must to do be a successful freelance content marketing writer: write great content that people enjoy reading AND which gets results for your client. The more I find myself focusing on B2B content, the more I realize how much incredibly boring B2B content is out there and how hard it is to write the really good stuff.

Since I want to keep this blog focused on helping all content marketing writers, I am launching a new blog today called Boring to Brilliant: How to Write Content for Real People that will focus on creating interesting, readable, and even fun B2B content marketing writing.

I have become more convinced that the way to create great B2B content (which is inherently dry by nature) is to make people feel something when they read your content – similar to when you write a magazine feature article. But this is easier said than done. So my new blog will give you practical advice on how to do this, starting with a concept that I’m very excited about: the Target Takeaway, which is an emotion that you use to drive all aspects of your content.

My new blog is geared to anyone who creates content, both freelancers and those employed by a company. While the blog is focused on B2B content, those who write primarily B2C (Business to Consumer) will also be able to get some good tips and strategies for writing great content. I promise that my Content Marketing Writer blog is not going anywhere and I plan to keep writing new posts for as long as you will keep reading my words.

I Need Your Help Spreading the Word about My New Blog

Over the past year I have been asking the “What Now?” question – as in “What should my next career goal be now that I’ve achieved a certain level of success?” My answer is that I want to do more speaking and writing for the greater content marketing community – not just freelancers. Over the past year, I have done some speaking in this area, but realized that to go where I want to go, I need a have a blog that helps all content creators, not just freelancers. So while I created this blog because I want to help people stop creating boring content, I am also doing this to help take my own career where I want to go. And I really need your help to do this.

Here are the four things that I would love each of you to help me with:

  • Share about my new blog as well as specific blog posts on Twitter (#contentmarketing is a great hashtag)
  • Share about my drawing for a $50 Amazon gift card on Twitter
  • Comment on my new blog posts so other readers will feel more comfortable commenting
  • Subscribe to my new blog so you can help me promote my new posts when they are published

To encourage you to help me (and also to help draw other readers to the new blog), I am holding a contest for the month of May (and also for June and July) where I am going to give away a $50 Amazon gift card. When you subscribe to my new blog (you sign up in a box on the blog, just like this blog), you will be entered into a random drawing. You will also get an additional entry for every relevant comment on my blog posts (no spam). Note that comments on my Content Marketing Writer blog do not count towards this drawing – only comments on B2B blog posts. Yes, I know that there is only a week left in May, but that means everyone that participates in the next week has a very good odds of winning the gift card! I’m planning on holding the contest each month over the summer as well to help get the blog kicked off.

I like to tell people that I have the best readers in the world. I love the kind notes you send me, the thoughtful comments, and the many Twitter shares. It means so much to me. And it has been so much fun to meet people in person who have been reading my blog for years. Writing this blog is honestly my favorite part of my day and I hope you enjoy reading it just as much.

Any questions about the contest? Any questions about my new blog?

Fantastic, Jennifer! Learning about your answers to “What Now?” and reading the new blog brought this immediately to mind:

    Congratulations!
    Today is your day.
    You’re off to Great Places!
    You’re off and away!

You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
    You can steer yourself
    any direction you choose.
You’re on your own. And you know what you know.

I love that poem. Thank you! I’ve been waiting a long time for my ideas for what to talk about to become concrete and I finally figured out what I want to say. I really appreciate your support.
