3 New Content Marketing Writing Tips I Learned This Week

One of my favorite parts about writing this blog is that I get to learn a bunch of cool new things about content marketing each week. Sometimes I learn from researching for a post, but a lot of time I learn new marketing tips from other writers and regular blog readers.

Here are three things I learned from you this week:

  1. You can use the search feature on the Custom Content Council website to focus your marketing efforts. I am positive that I have looked at the Custom Content Provider list on the website at least a hundred times, but somehow I never noticed the handy search feature in the blue box on the right side of the screen. Alice (a loyal blog reader) mentioned in an email that she had success using the search feature so I investigated further, and I was so glad I did. This really cool feature allows you to search for custom publishers by industry, deliverable, and even location. For example, if you specialize in writing whitepapers for the financial services field, you can quickly get a list of content marketing agencies representing brands in the financial industry who product white papers for their clients.
  2. Find brands by looking at the advertisers in the publications that your target audience reads. In the comments for this week’s post Help a Content Marketing Writer: Meet Chrystle, James suggested that Chrystle look through natural health consumer magazines and make a list of the brands that advertise in these publications. This is a brilliant strategy that can work for any niche and will give you a ton of new market ideas. The secret to marketing your content marketing writing services is to find brands that are trying to sell a product or service to the target audience that you have experience writing for. And this is a great way to add more brands to your list to target.
  3. Associations can be a great market for content marketing gigs. Justine also gave an idea to Chrystle in the comments that would work for most any niche as well.  She suggested reaching out to any national homeopath associations that may have publications for their members. Christine (another loyal reader) sent me a link to a long list of associations she found online and it seems that there is association for almost every industry under the sun. Some associations even have lists of their members on the website so that is a great source of potential clients as well.

What tips did you learn this week? Have you tried any of these three tips? Any thoughts to add?
